Chess-Press Chess Center – Across Two Centuries!

The Chess-Press Chess Center in Szeged has been exclusively dedicated to distributing chess products and publishing chess literature since its founding in 1992. As representatives in Hungary for some of the world’s most renowned producers of chess equipment, software, and literature, our inventory is always up-to-date, offering chess enthusiasts the most modern tools available.

  • May 4, 1992 – Chess-Press Ltd. is established as a family business in Szeged, owned by Slobodan Adzic.
  • 2000 – Chess-Press launches its monthly chess magazine, Sakkfutár. The first issue is published in January 2000.
  • 2001 – Organizes a friendly match between the Hungarian and Serbian women’s chess teams in Szeged.
  • 2001 – Chess-Press serves as the technical organizer for a friendly match between Grandmaster Zoltán Almási and Jouel Lotie at the Forrás Hotel in Szeged.
  • 2000–2008 – Publishes the monthly chess magazine Sakkfutár. Editors-in-chief: GM József Pintér and GM Zsuzsa Verőci.
  • 2002 – Following the Hungarian chess team’s silver medal at the Bled Chess Olympiad, Chess-Press publishes the book Kings and Queens, authored by Zsuzsa Verőci and Slobodan Adzic.
  • 2003 – Publishes the first Hungarian-language chess program, Fritz 7, developed by Germany’s ChessBase.
  • 2003Sakkfutár increases its publication frequency from 12 to 18 issues per year.
  • 2004 – Chess-Press signs an exclusive contract with Garry Kasparov for the Hungarian translation of his My Great Predecessors series, which is translated into 15 languages.
  • 2004 – Publishes My Great Predecessors Vol. 1.
  • 2004 – Organization of the Brissago World Chess Championship match (Kramnik–Lékó), held at the Royal Hotel in Szeged. To commemorate the event, Péter Lékó presented a dedicated chessboard as a gift.
  • 2005 – Opens the ChessGlobe store in Budapest.
  • 2005 – Wins a government grant to supply Hungarian schools with chess sets and demonstration boards, distributing 1,000 chess sets and 100 boards.
  • 2005 – Publishes volumes 2, 3, and 4 of My Great Predecessors.
  • 2006 – Opens the ChessGlobe store in Szeged in July, with a grand opening hosted by Grandmaster Péter Lékó.
  • 2005 – Opens the ChessGlobe store in Mohács.
  • 2008 – Publishes the book A Game That Shapes Character.
  • 2008 – Launches the electronic magazine E-Sakkfutár.
  • 2008–2012 – Organizes nine international IM and GM norm chess tournaments in Szeged, held at the Royal Club.
  • 2012–2023 – Every business reaches a point where a brief pause is necessary.
  • 2024 – A new chapter begins: Chess-Press embarks on its European expansion, resuming the full-scale distribution of chess products and the publication of its own titles.
  • 2024 – Publishes the fifth volume of My Great Predecessors (Robert James Fischer).
