Andor Lilienthal – Defeated 5 World Champions!

Grandmaster Andor Lilienthal (05.05.1911 – 08.05.2010) never became a world chess champion. However, no one else can claim to have defeated five world champions! The legendary Lilienthal achieved this remarkable feat, defeating Lasker, Capablanca, Alekhine, Botvinnik, and Smyslov over the chessboard.

Born in Moscow in 1911, Andor spent most of his life in Budapest, where he passed away in 2010 at the age of 99.
His life, career, and charisma have been forever recorded in the annals and history of chess.

To ensure his legacy lives on in written form, a book dedicated to Lilienthal's life and career will soon be published by Chess-Press.
We are proud to note that Andor contributed 150 articles and commentaries to our newspaper, Sakkfutár!

👉 We have selected exclusive photos of Lilienthal in Budapest for you to enjoy.
